Maharishi Valmiki International Airport
Maharishi Valmiki International Airport is the aviation gateway to Ayodhya, designed by STHAPATI for the Airports Authority of India and inaugurated in December 2023. The terminal covers 8,000 sq. m within a 336.59-acre masterplan and carries a GRIHA 4-star rating. Its architecture translates the Nagara temple idiom into contemporary form — a stepped shikhara at the entrance, mega columns representing the Kandas of the Ramayana, and extensive ornamental detail throughout. It is the first Indian airport to use GRC at scale across its façade, replacing conventional stone with a lighter, lower-carbon alternative.
